Highlighting while viewing full page (no toolbars)

I'm looking for a PDF app to highlight books on my Android tablet and Xodo is a strong contender. However, I need to be able to view the PDF pages without any toolbars in the way while I highlight.
I have the free version of Xodo at the moment and I see that if I don't have a tool selected, I can tap the page to make the toolbar disappear. But once I select the highlighter tool, I can no longer hide the toolbar.
Is it possible to hide the toolbar while a tool is selected and in use?
