Xodo PDF Studio makes it easy to create accessible PDFs with its powerful auto-tagging feature. This feature automatically adds the necessary tags to your document to make it compliant with PDF/UA (ISO 14289), the international standard for accessible PDFs.

PDF/UA compliance ensures that your documents can be used by everyone, including people with disabilities who rely on assistive technologies like screen readers. By adding semantic structure to your PDFs, such as:

  • Headings
  • Paragraphs
  • Lists
  • Tables
  • Alternative text for images

Auto-tagging makes your content navigable and understandable for all users.

How to Automatically Tag a Document

  1. Open your PDF document in Xodo PDF Studio
  2. Go to the "Document" tab in the top menu bar.
  3. Select  Auto Tag

  4. Xodo PDF Studio will analyze your document and automatically create the UA tags. A progress bar will show you the status.

  5. Once the analysis is complete, a "Save As" dialog box will appear.

  6. Choose a location and file name for your new accessible PDF.

  7. The document will reopen, allowing you to manually review and refine the tags using the tag editor if needed.

Why is PDF/UA Important?

Creating accessible PDFs is not just about complying with legal requirements like WCAG. It's about ensuring that your information is available to everyone, regardless of their abilities. By using the auto-tagging feature in Xodo PDF Studio, you can easily create inclusive and user-friendly documents.
