Use the options from the PDF Optionstab to set the portability of a PDF document. For example, if a document is to open in a Web browser or from a network, it should be optimized (using linearization)to ensure it loads and displays quickly. Also, if a document is to be archived, its fonts must be fully embedded and its output set to PDF/A to guarantee archiving compliancy.

To Select PDF Option Settings

  1. Using the application's printer dialog select Xodo PDF from the printer name list.
  2. Click "Properties" to view additional settings
  3. Go to the PDF Options tab and select from the below options
  4. Click OK to apply the settings before generating the PDF

Available Options

Font Embedding - To include all TrueType® and Type1 (Postscript) fonts from the source document into the output PDF file. This creates a larger file but ensures consistent document display across different platforms. Additional font embedding options include:

  • Partial font embedding: To set the PDF Converter to embed only portions of the font file that are used by the source document.
  • Embed standard fonts: To set the PDF Converter to embed Arial and Times New Roman fonts. These fonts are not embedded by default as they are provided with Acrobat® reader.
  • Embed licensed fonts: To set the PDF Converter to embed fonts that require a license from their manufacturer.

Output PDF 2.0 - To generate the document in the PDF 2.0 specification.

Page Content Compression - To compress a document with the zlib/deflate compression algorithm. Disable this option for debugging purposes or for applications that analyze the generated PDF file in clear text.

Web optimization (Linearization) - To view a PDF file from a Web browser, server, or remote location. This option enables the reader to view the PDF page by-page without having to download the entire document.

Multi-language support - To convert non-Western-European and U.S. character sets (e.g., Eastern- European and Far-Eastern characters). This conversion is less efficient and files tend to be larger. Font embedding is recommended for PDF viewers to correctly display all fonts.

Output XMP metadata - To generate an XML representation of the metadata that describes the document. The metadata is formatted according to the Extensible Metadata Platform (XMP) specifications.

Output PDF/A - Generate the document in PDF/A format. Based on the PDF 1.4 specifications, PDF/A places a certain number of constraints on PDF files to ensure that they remain readable with future versions of operating systems and PDF viewers.
