I fully agree with this request. It's also very important e.g. for slides, when you are browsing a presentation in scrolling mode: slides are usually written in large fonts, so I often would like to zoom out more to see more slides at the same time while still being able to read them.
I know I can make the app window narrower to achieve this but it's annoying because I then have to resize the window again when I want to zoom in.
Funnily, if I switch to "double" view mode, scroll in/out a bit, and then switch back to "single" mode, I get what I'm asking for :), although for a short time: if I zoom in to window fit then I cannot zoom out anymore.
So this is technically feasible, you just need to remove the window-width zoom level limitation.
